Cheat Code to Stay Focus

Finding it hard to stay focused? I certainty do.

As I write this, I was “interrupted” with a sudden and whole building electrical shutdown that left us in darkness while our office was being renovated – long story short – I still don’t have an office door and the wall painting is half done…

And this in itself is a distraction from me writing about how to stay focused… so back to the topic …

In our fast-paced, multi-tasking, achievement-orientated, content-overload world, maintaining focus IS a challenge. Distractions are abundant. Staying on a task requires more than just willpower. And after reading and trying all the tips there can be, staying focused is still easier said and done! Since I can be pretty lazy and I like effective shortcuts, here is my cheat code I use to boost my focus, complemented by (of course) with Exoterica’s specially designed products.

1. Prioritize a Focus-Friendly Environment

A cluttered space can lead to a cluttered mind. So obviously the first step is setting a priority to create a dedicated space that is free from distractions is crucial for maintaining focus. Example, creating a dedicated space for work, a separate space for meditation, and another space specifically for rest. Again – easier said then done! Through some trial and testing, I found out that dedicated spaces does not necessarily have to be separate spaces – after all, is space in itself not a luxury that not everyone can have but need? Having specific furniture, like a carpet meant only for meditation, or a different kind of lightning for work vs rest are useful (and more importantly, attainable) tweaks to make.

But beyond physical dedicated spaces / things, an element that directly made a difference for someone like me (an energy sensitive) against distractions and created a focus-friendly environment for me was shielding. An energetic shield – or a “bubble” around me – gave me a sense of separation between me and external interruptions, fostering a more focused state of mind in me.

There are several ways to create energy shields, and it would be too large a digression to go into at this point. So for days I’m focusing on a particularly challenging task, I sometimes forget / do not have the capacity to hold an energetic shield at the same time, these are the times I reach out for our shield spray.

Did you know…?

Most people assume that shield is meant for protection (e.g. when feeling energy drain) but shields have the additional effect of “pulling” your scattering energy towards you at the same time – creating a feeling of being more focused, more pulled together. It is my go-to spray when I feel scattered, all over the place.

2. Ground Myself Regularly

Grounding, or connecting with the Earth, stabilizes my energy levels and keeps me feeling more centered, which is essential for me to sustain my focus. Simple grounding techniques, like walking barefoot on natural surfaces like grass, or hanging out in the garden or with nature are normal ways I ground myself.

BUT… there will be days / moments where I have simply no motivation to go outside to ground myself. Those are the moments I tell myself, going outside now is going to distract me even more and defeats the purpose of me choosing to stay indoors to stay focused. These are the days I reach out for Exoterica grounding formulation – I use the spray if I want something quick and dirty, and I take a shower with the bath form for days I need something stronger to stay present and focused.

3. Clear My Mind with Mental Detox

Some of you might know me as a champion of detox. I believe in the power of detoxing to keep my system running smoother. I don’t know about you, but I find that mental clutter can be as disruptive as physical clutter when it comes to staying focus! Especially if I’m learning something new, something that I’ve avoided in the past and my brain just fogs up – I reach out for Clear Head.

Technically, refreshing my mental state doesn’t automatically equate I will stay focused. But having a cleared headspace gives me the edge to maintain my peak performance – a critical partner when it comes to staying focused.

4. Manage My Emotions

Oh… the havoc my emotional body gives me…

It is so easy to go, “manage your emotions”, but so, so SO difficult to achieve in reality… How can one not react when a deadline is looming and there’s just so much tasks to be handled, or when a team member is not pulling his/her weight and instead throwing all kind of curved balls? Or me choosing to react each time my phone buzzes with messages…

Okay, I’m going to pause the ranting as that is just me going defensive about the state of my emotional body. I just want to say that managing emotions is learnable, trainable and achievable.

In the meantime, when I just need a way out of a particularly tensed moment – there is a range of products to help me – Anti-Anxiety – is my go-to temporary measure to cope with stressful situations that throw me off focus. Another formulation that helps me be about to establish a new way to see through or past things is Peaceful Mind – when I can stabilize my emotions, my desire to stay focus naturally improves. If I am feeling down and my energy feels low, Uplift Intention Candle does exactly as it says – this is a mood changer for me on days I prefer a fire-based solution to pull away from something that is dragging me down.

5. Light Up My Drive

I am known for preferring the water element but when it comes to staying focus and manifestation, my fire element is the one I activate. And a big source of staying focused for me is to be motivated. Being motivated is my sure-fire way to stay focused. When I am motivated, I will direct more of my attention towards my goals and tasks – motivation provides me with energy and reason to focus on what’s important to get the task done. So “traditionally” from a personal development point of view, this is where all the techniques around renewing sense of purpose, connecting to what is important, etc becomes measures to enhance ability to focus. No guesswork needed there. For me, I add just one more icing to my cake : Drive intention Candle.

After I have aligned myself back to my purpose of why I am doing what I am doing – I light up an intention candle and use the burst of energy to stay focused. Since I have the benefit of being involved in the production process of making the intention candles – each time I make these Drive candles, I get to hang out in a space which is filled with coffee, sweet orange and cinnamon… what I love about what I do is that for that day – all the staff and volunteers who share the space with us also get the same perk – haha the best things in life are meant to be shared.

Wondering what to do with the leftover Sun Bless from the Summer Solstice ceremony kit? You can use Sunbless on days where you want something strong to push you stay on task.

6. Relaxation and Reset

The chiongster / running hamster I am, I have learned the really hard way never to underestimate the power of fatigue while staying on task. If I truly want to sustain a focus over a longer period of time, I need stamina. And stamina is a buildup habit over time – which means I need a system of adequate relaxation and reset while training my ability and capacity to maintain focus.

I find Superclear gives me a quick ctrl-alt-del effect when I need it – this is useful when overwhelm sets in for me and it becomes important to reset. Inner Peace helps my whole body relax while on a running break, and and Sleepy Healthy bath helps me unwind to get the rest I need.
